Within the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland a new group – the Proctology subcommittee – has been formed. We comprise a group of 7 colorectal surgeons and 1 trainee surgeon from across England. Our first article is now available to read (http://doi.org/10.1111/codi.16073). Aptly named ‘Bringing to light our darkest corner’ aims to raise the profile of the importance of treatment of anal conditions. Here we discuss the complexities of the work and the need to provide dedicated training for future colorectal surgeons. Unfortunately patients who require surgery for anal conditions do not always get the attention they deserve. Time constraints and prioritisation of cancer cases with the NHS has led to this group of patients possibly having a difficult journey. Our mission is to improve training and champion the work of dedicated proctologists. Watch this space………!
