This latest interesting research paper is hot off the press! It is used to be that we took the newspaper on the loo for ‘me time’……now its scrolling on your phone. We know that the sitting position on western toilets can unfortunately lead to pressure on the anal ring. This is why animals do it better. The squatting position is the best way to open your bowels without causing pressure on the haemorrhoidal tissue in our anal canals.
This interesting paper looked at 125 people and their toileting habits. They found haemorrhoids to be more common in people who scrolled on their phone whilst on the loo (46% more likely, that’s a lot!). The tendency to get sucked into the void of scrolling can lead to time passing quickly….perhaps you only meant to be there for a few minutes but got distracted by an article/newsfeed.
In reality we all have to move and embrace this new world. Rather than say no phone on the loo, how about swap your loo for a giant potty on the floor and then the world is your oyster!
