Spotlight on pilonidal disease!

Pilonidal disease is a unique infective condition affecting the natal cleft. This area of the body I affectionately call the valley of the buttocks… In essence it is a really bothersome condition whereby you may experience boils just above the anus that swell up, discharge pus/hair, settle and then flare up from time to time. The discharge is a bit smelly. You may on occasions need to go to A+E to have an abscess lanced and cleaned.

Overall it is an incredibly embarrassing condition and may have a big impact on your quality of life. Some patients need to wear continuous dressing on the area that can often fall off int he underwear. This area is a bit damp and hairy…standard dressing don’t stick there very well. It may be difficult to have an intimate life when the symptoms flare up.

Don’t worry…help is at hand! In my video below I provide a simple toolkit for managing this condition and what to expect in terms of treatment options. I offer many surgical solutions for this problem and it can usually be easily resolved with a small local anaesthetic procedure.
